Cultures Count on Migrants

The "Cultures Count on Migrants" multi-cultural celebration in Stevenage town square took place on Sunday 12th September 2010. It attracted over 1,000 visitors from a number of different ethnic backgrounds and was a big success.

The day was organised by a number of local and county-wide organisations, led by Stevenage World Forum, in partnership with Stevenage Polish Association, MENTER, Stevenage Town Centre Management, Hertfordshire Constabulary, and Stevenage Borough Council, and provided a magnificent opportunity to celebrate diversity, get to know each other and build strong links with various communities from Stevenage.

The Mayor of Stevenage officially opened the event and stressed the importance of living in a diverse society, where people help to build bridges and understand different cultures, heritage and background, in order to accept and understand each other.

A number of different community groups performed a variety of dance and music, and stallholders from across the region interacted with the public. There was a huge amount of energy, commitment and dedication from all the organisers but it would not have been possible without funding from the Migration Impact Fund (MIF), Hertfordshire Locality Budget, Stevenage Community Trust and Stevenage World Forum.
